Early Head Start serves children from 6 weeks up to age 3 years. The ratio is 4 children to 1 teacher. When a child enrolled in Early Head Start is developmentally ready for Head Start the transition will begin 6 months prior to the child’s third birthday.
Early Head Start Pregnant Women serves women and expectant families. When the baby is born, the child is automatically eligible to participate in Early Head Start after the child turns 6 weeks old.
Head Start serves children ages 3 and 4. In special situations, a child may remain in Head Start as a 5 year old when the child is not developmentally ready for kindergarten.
Parents may apply for a child to go to Head Start when a child turns 3 years old.
